As over-the-top, excessive, and wasteful as the city of Dubai, in UAE is, this picture from the top of the highest structure in the world looking down upon Dubai center is amazing, as are most other pictures of Dubai.

Dubai also has an indoor ski resort in the middle of the desert, two artificially created islands, one shaped like the world (each island sells for 25-30 million) and another like a palm tree, a soon-to-be-completed underwater hotel and oh so, so much more (Fun fact: Dubai contains 25% of the world's cranes).

It's certainly overwhelming amazing, but necessary?
